The Cochin Port Trust and the Inland Waterway Authority of India have signed an MOU for operating a Roll-on and Roll-off barge service for the transportation of containers between Wellington and Vallarpadam islands in Kochi.The MOU was signed by the Cochin Port Trust Chairman Mr N Ramachandran and the Inland Waterway Authority of India Chairman Mr S P Gaur at Noida today. A press communique issued by the Cochin Port Trust said it will provide the required land and construct the jetties and parking yards for modern Inland Waterway terminals being established at Wellington and Bolghatty Islands for operating the barge service. The Inland Waterway Authority of India has sanctioned nearly 17 crore rupees for this purpose.
