Coastal security threats are assessed at regular intervals: Defence Ministry

Defence Ministry has said that coastal security threats are assessed at regular intervals. Minister of State for Defence Dr Subhash Bhamre today said this in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.<br/> <br/>He said, after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, there have been several inputs indicating likelihood of terrorist attacks on coastal States, including the island territories, by using the sea route. <br/> <br/>He said, monitoring, review and assessment of the coastal security construct is an ongoing process and is undertaken on a periodic basis. <br/><br/>The Minister said, National Committee on Strengthening Maritime and Coastal Security monitors the progress in respect of coastal security initiatives and decides on measures to plug the gaps. The Committee meets at least twice a year. <br/><br/>The 14th meeting of the Committee was held recently on 24th of this month. <br/><br/>
