The Coastal districts of Tamilnadu have been experiencing intermittent showers on Thursday. Educational institutions in nine districts remained closed due to rains. The Met department has predicted rains for another 24 hours as there was no change in the existing trough of low pressure in the southwest Bay of Bengal.In Chennai, Minister for Local administration Mr. K.P.Munusamy and Minister for Information Mr. Senthamilan visited people who were affected by floods in low lying areas. The newly elected Mayor Saidai Duraisamy also visited several parts of the city to supervise the activities carried out by the Corporation in clearing flood waters. Water levels in Poondi, Sholavaram, Redhills and Sembarambakkam reservoirs which supply drinking water to the city are increasing. Water levels in Reservoirs in Tirunelveli, Theni and Cuddalore are also increasing due to rains in catchment areas. District authorities in all the coastal areas are monitoring the situation if rains are going to continue in the same vigour. The district collector of Nilgiris, Ms. Archana Patnaik told AIR correspondent that all the departments will work in a coordinated manner with the people to prevent any type of eventuality.
