In Tamil Nadu, silent processions , memorial services, prayers and ceremonies marked the 6th anniversary of the tsunami. Family members of those killed by the giant waves on the coast remembered their near and dear ones by lighting candle lights at memorials. Portraits of those killed dot fishing hamlets in Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapatinam, Kanyakumari coast which bore the brunt of the natural disaster. The giant waves triggered by undersea tremors in Indonesia had caused the tsunami, which had killed over 8000 people in the state. In Nagapattinam, one of the worst-hit by the killer waves, people from all walks of life including school students paid floral tributes at the tsunami memorial at the district collectorate and observed a minute silence. . In Vellankani, an all-faith prayer meeting was attended by hundreds of people who marched in a procession. Our correspondent reports from Nagapattinam, that a pall of gloom has descended on the fishing hamlets as people mourn the death of their relatives. It was in this district that over 6065 people were washed away by the waves.
