Coalition forces continued their offensive against Libyan troops for the seventh day yesterday. They carried out air strikes against Libyan tanks around the eastern town of Ajdabiya. Libyan state television said, civilian and military sites in Tripoli came under attack from long-range missiles. A senior US military official claimed that Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has virtually no air defence and a diminishing ability to command and sustain his forces on the ground. Vice Admiral William Gortney said, Col. Gaddafi is arming volunteers to fight the uprising against his rule. Despite the reports of setbacks for pro-Gaddafi forces considerably, fighting continued in Misrata in the west and Ajdabiya in the east. Meanwhile, NATO has named three-star Canadian general, Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard, to run NATO's Libya operations. Qatar has become the first Arab state to contribute to the air mission over Libya.
