CMs meet on internal security: PM calls for broader national consensus to tackle naxal violence

The Chief Ministers conference on internal security today appealed to the youth of the naxal affected states to give up violence and pursue their goals through legitimate and democratic means. A resolution adopted at the end of the conference the leaders agreed to make every effort to bring these youth into mainstream and accelerate developmental activities for the welfare of the people.

The resolution condemning the recent Naxal attack in Chattisgarh the chief ministers vowed to resist naxal violence with all might. The resolution was moved by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Chief Ministers and top officials of central and state governments.

Terming the Naxal attack as an attack on democracy and freedom, the Chief Ministers resolved to use all legitimate means to counter the activities of the CPI(Maoist). Disagreeing with Maoist ideology,

Addressing the Conference, Prime minister Manmohan Singh sought broader national consensus between the Centre, States and political parties to tackle naxal violence.

Condemning the Chattisgarh naxal attack on a political rally, Dr. Singh affirmed that such violence has no place in a democracy. He said, an all-party meeting has been called on the 10th of this month for broader consensus among political parties to prepare strategy to tackle the naxalite challenge.

The Prime minister asked the Centre and State governments to evolve concrete measures to deal with naxal violence and prevent violent incidents.

Dr. Singh also hoped the State governments will cooperate fully with Centre's efforts to further strengthen defensive and offensive capabilities against Left Wing Extremists.
Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said, India continues to face threats to internal security from jihadi terrorists.

He said, terrorists are adopting high tech gadgets including satellite phones and modern equipment. Mr. Shinde said large quantities of explosives including RDX are finding their way through porous borders into Punjab and Sikh terrorists are being trained by the ISI in Pakistan.

The home minister said, the Centre is doing its best to support the states in fighting terror to give a firm reply to forces attempting to destabilise the country.
