The Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) is meeting this evening to discuss the water sharing issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The meeting comes after a central team, which visited to Tamil Nadu to assess the situation about the water scarcity submitted its report to the Centre.
Cauvery Monitoring Committee comprises officials of the central Government and Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, all of which have a share in the Cauvery water.
Karnataka, which was releasing 9,000 cusecs daily to Tamil Nadu from September 29, stopped it last Monday prompting Tamil Nadu to file contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court.
Karnataka has been arguing that is has been hit by worst drought in 40 years and water in the reservoirs across Cauvery was just enough to meet irrigation and drinking water purposes till next June when the four-month monsoon season starts.
