CMC meet in New Delhi to discuss Cauvery water sharing

The Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) met in New Delhi this evening to discuss the water sharing issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. AIR correspondent reports, Karnataka reiterated its stand on Cauvery water release, informing the Monitoring Committee that it cannot release more water to Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court is to take up the matter tommorow.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu had urged the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings against Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and 6 others for alleged defiance of the apex court's order to release 9,000 cusecs of water to the State from Cauvery basis.

Today's Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) meeting took place after a central team visited Tamil Nadu to assess the situation about the water scarcity and submitted its report to the Centre.
