Lahore Lions routed defending champions Mumbai Indians by six wickets in their opening qualifying round match of the Champions League Twenty-20 on Saturday. Aditya Tare was the top-scorer for the Mumbai Indians with 37 runs to his credit off 36 balls. Cameos from Harbhajan Singh,18 from 10 balls, and Praveen Kumar, 20 from 14 balls, helped Mumbai to build up a humble score of 135 for 7. The Pakistani side comfortably chased down the target with eighth balls to spare. Ahmed Shehzad with 34 runs and Nasir Jamshed with 26 runs laid a good platform by stitching 51 runs for the opening wicket but they looked like losing way in the middle overs as Mumbai came back strongly with fine bowling and tight fielding. Umar Akmal's superb show of batting, brought back the Lahore Lions into the game.Akmal's four fours and two sixes from 18 balls in his unbeaten knock helped Lahore reach 139 for four in 18.4 overs. Umar Akmal was adjudged Man of the Match. With this shocker defeat Mumbai Indians are now ranked third in the points table. Northern Knights of New Zealand defeated Southern Express of Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the first qualifying match played earlier at Chhattisgarh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.Northern Knights will take on Lahore Lions in the third qualifying match at 4 PM on Sunday in Raipur.In the second match Mumbai Indians will play against Southern Express at 8 p.m. Like last year, the Tournament has opened with a qualifying round between four teams. Top three teams will get direct entry into the main round that begins from September 17.
