CLT-20: Mumbai Indians lose to Lions by seven runs in the Opening tie

In the opening match of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg last night, local team Highveld Lions beat Mumbai Indians by nine runs.Chasing a target of 186, Mumbai Indians could score 177 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Sachin Tendulkar made 69 runs in 42 balls. Shikhar Dhawn 32 and Pollard 30 were the other contributors. For Lions Shane Burger took two wickets.Earlier put into bat, Lions scored a challenging 186 for five. Jonathan Vandiar scored 71 while Neil Mckenzie made 56 runs. For Mumbai Indians Lasith Malinga claimed 3 wickets.The two-week long tournament pits the skills of ten of the best T-20 teams of the world. Apart from Mumbai Indians, the other two Indian teams in the fray are Indian Premier League champion Chennai Super Kings and third-place finisher Royal Challengers Bangalore.
