Clouds of ash and grits from Volcano in South-eastern Iceland have paralysed air travel across much of Europe. Flights have been cancelled in countries stretching from Britain to Russia and Romania. European Air Traffic Agency said, almost two thirds of Europe's 28000 daily flights were cancelled on Friday. Virtually all of Europe's major international airports have been closed as the volcanic ash which can seriously damage aircraft engines is blown across the continent from Iceland. Millions of air travelers are stranded across Europe after flights were cancelled. Britain and Ireland have re-imposed flight bans, warning of worsening conditions throughout Saturday. The affects of the Volcano are also disrupting travelers in Asia. Officials said, more than 60 flights between Asia and Europe have been cancelled. It costs the airlines millions of dollars in the loss of revenues and hotel bills for stranded passengers. AIR correspondent reports that travel chaos for hundreds of thousands of people who had plans to fly to or from Europe or fly over the European airspace continue with over 1600 0 flights cancelled today as the cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland continues to linger over the continent . Hotels are booked and airports choked with a large number of stranded passengers across Europe and other places. What is worse Icelandic geologists s warned that volcanic activity had increased and showed no sign of abating. According to them t an expansive cloud of grit that is hovering over parts of western Europe today has triggered extended flight bans .the Icelandic Meteorological Office said the amount of ash in the plume grew Saturday and that the vast ash cloud is continuing to travel south and southeast. Scientists had planned to fly over the volcano to see how much ice has melted to determine how much longer the eruption could spew ash, but the flight had been postponed… The plans of passengers over a million of them either of going , home , on a holiday or attending wedding , funerals or professional work have not only been upset but many are facing financial problems with several air lines leaving the passengers high and dry in the mid points of their journey .And like others passengers like us of Air India flight from Washington to Delhi that was halted in New York on Thursday, there is no choice but to wait till the flights resume.
