At least 54 people were killed and many more injured when a cloudburst hits parts of Leh area. 14 bodies have been recovered so far and many more are still missing in a series of cloudbursts that hit parts of Leh town during the night. AIR Leh Correspondent Yangchan Dolma reports that more than hundred people are feared killed in one of the worst ever flood in Leh. Landslides also caused road blocks in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar-Leh National Highway remained closed due to the sudden Flash Flood in Kargil District.The cloudburst in the Himalayan town located 424 kilometres from Srinagar, mainly hit the Choglumsar area. The BSNL network had completely been damaged and the runway of the civil airport had been cut off with the rest of the country as the runway was damaged at various places. The communication system in the area had been badly affected. Officials said, other areas along the Sindhu river were yet to be accessed and they feared the human loss would be heavy. Many buildings were also washed away in the heavy downpour.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while expressing grief over the tragedy, has directed the civil and police administration to undertake relief and rescue work at war footing.
