Closing ceremony of Rio Paralympics underway in Brazil

The spectacular closing ceremony of Rio Paralympics gets underway at Maracana Stadium in Brazil. The 11 days long international sports event is ending today. Brazilian officials will hand over the flag to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the closing ceremony. At the begining, many people feared that the Rio Paralympics would be a fiasco but some scintillating performances and stunning feats turned it into an unforgettable triumph of determination over disability.China dominated the Rio Paralympics games with 239 medals, followed by Britain, Ukraine and the United States. India capped off a successful Paralympic Games campaign in Rio by procuring their best ever haul of four medals, including two golds and a silver and bronze medal. The upbeat mood in Rio however was darkened late Saturday by the death of Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad. The athlete, who wore a prosthesis on his left leg, fell during a mountainous descent in the road race and died before he could be treated in hospital.
