Three persons including two jail wardens and a prisoner were injured in a clash between the jail staff and inmates in Kapurthala Jail, on Friday, when the jail staff recovered a mobile phone and some intoxicants from two of the prisoners on a tip off from another prisoner.The Jail Superintendent, Sikander Singh had told AIR that the Jail staff had to fire in the air to stop the agitating prisoners from setting ablaze LPG cylinders in the kitchen area. The agitating prisoners used iron water pipes and bricks in the attack on the jail staff. The jail authorities requisitioned more police force to bring the situation under control. The injured include jail wardens Balbir Singh and Tej Pal Singh. The prisoner who informed jail staff about the use of mobile and intoxicants by two of the prisoners was also beaten up by inmates. He had been admitted in the local civil hospital.
