The Chief Justice of India, Mr K G Balakrishnan has urged the central and state governments to create a fund for rape victims. Speaking at a national consultation programme on access to justice, relief and rehabilitation of rape victims in New Delhi today, Mr Balkrishnan said, the responsibilities lie with the state governments and the centre to give adequate compensation to rape victims. He said the fund should be given to district legal services authority to distribute it to the victims. The Chief Justice called for sensitivity to victims during trials.
