CJI mooted setting up of 4,000 more Gram Nayalayas

Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan has mooted setting up of 4,000 more Gram Nayalayas for settling minor cases in rural areas. Addressing the International Conference on Judicial Reforms in Panchkula, Haryana today he said judicial infrastructure will improve significantly in next two years due to higher allocation of funds. The Planning Commission has earmarked an outlay of 5,000 crore rupees for improving judicial infrastructure for the coming financial year and there will be wonderful and fresh change in the look of judiciary and court's infrastructure soon. He said this will further strengthen the confidence of people in the judicial system.The strength of High Court judges in the country had improved considerably. But, he said, the situation in lower courts in the country is not as good as in higher courts.
