CJI calls for setting up legal aid centres in CAT benches

Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir has called for setting up legal aid centres at the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT)Benches across the coutry.

Addressing the annual CAT conference in New Delhi today, Justice Kabir said no person should be denied access to justice. He said certain people are eligible for free legal aid which include children, women, the disabled SC/ST and those below certain income level.

The Chief Justice also called for simplify and minimizing procedures for speedy and efficient delivery of justice to the people . He also urged the CAT for speedy disposal of pending cases.

Law Minister Ashwini Kumar said the Central Administrative Tribunal has contributed immensely to lessen the pendency of higher courts. Mr. Kumar said Indian judiciary has set superior model within the country and abroad.

The Minister for Personnel & Publice Grievances V.Narayanaswamy said the government is committed to provide all financial and infrastructural support to strengthen CAT.
