Civilian death: Shutdown in Pulwama passes off peacefully; BSF orders probe

In Jammu & Kashmir, barring stray clashes between security forces and protesters, the second day of shutdown passed off peacefully in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. The normal life came to standstill today in Pulwama district following the killing of two local Lashkar-e-Taiba militants and a civilian Bilal Ahmad Bhat. Bhat was allegedly shot dead by BSF troops during protests on Tuesday (August 12) in Malangpora area of the district. <br/> '<br/>Inspector General BSF Kashmir Frontier Dr Jagat Singh has termed the killing of Pulwama youth Bilal Ahmad Bhat as unfortunate and said the inquiry committee has been set up to probe the incident. Police have lodged FIR against BSF Road Opening Party alleged to be involved in the killing of Pulwama youth. <br/><br/>However, BSF has lodged a counter FIR alleging that they came under attack from a mob putting them into a life threatening situation. The family of the slain youth has also refuted the claim of BSF regarding the incident. <br/><br/>State Government has ordered time-bound inquiry into the incident. Main opposition National Conference Provincial spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar in a statement has expressed concern over what he alleged the wanton arrests of youngsters, slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on youths besides other such harsh measures in South Kashmir's Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts. <br/><br/>Meanwhile all shops, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed. The official work in government, semi government offices and courts was largely affected. Public transport was off the roads, however, private vehicles were sparsely plying on the roads. Security deployment had been strengthened in the area to curb any possible protests in the district.Army has cordoned the Begum Bagh area of Kakapora in Pulwama district.
