Sidhu, Co-Conveners of the Joint Panel of Citizens Soldiers said that a ‘Wake up call to Nation’ by playing patriotic forewarning song ” Vatan ki abroo khatre mein hai, hoshiar ho jao’ at public functions has been given to emphasize that the ‘danger from China and Pakistan was real and imminent,’ not withstanding denials from both sides. Citizens-Soldiers’ Joint Panel deplored that instead of taking the nation in confidence, the Defence Ministry was “trying to down play and conceal the facts to cover up its long un-preparedness and incompetence.” The Panel urged upon the Centre Government to settle forthwith, all long pending grievances of Soldiers those were feeling down graded and “demoralized right from bottom to top” i.e. from Sepoy to Chiefs of the Defence Forces. The Panel maintained that the “citizens of India are ready to bear any exclusive surcharge or tax to give army-men their dues without further delay.” The Panel argued that “we can not afford to neglect our soldiers when we need them most,” in face of extremely serious internal and external security threats to our beloved motherland, from Global Terrorist Groups, Naxalite insurgency, Taliban and hostile neighboring countries like China and Pakistan. The grievances of soldiers include, ‘One Rank-One Pension’, Separate Pay Commission for Armed Forces, Job Security to Soldiers up to 60 years of age and rehabilitation of army widows, besides Restoration of protocol fifth position to Chief of Defense Forces.
