In Delhi, the present circle rates have been raised by 100 per cent for valuation of land and immovable properties for charging stamp duty. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting cochaired by Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit. The new rates will come into force after issuance of a notification soon. Talking to reporters after the meeting Dikshit said that the existing rates have been increased to check black money circulation in property transactions in Delhi. The existing circle rates based on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi categorisation for the Residential Property Tax were 43,000 rupees per sq meter for Category-A, 34,100 rupees for Category-B and 27,300 rupees for Category-C , while for Category-D it was 21800 rupees. The circle rates were first introduced in Delhi in 2007.
