In Jharkhand, the day long strike by the workers of all companies of Coal India has severely affected mining and related activities in Dhanbad, Ramgarh and Jharia. Striking workers also held demonstration in front of headquarters of different coal companies in Ranchi. Today strike call is given by five recognized trade unions representing 3 lakh 75 thousand workers of 10 companies of Coal India. The effects have started showing in Jharkhand. Workers did not turn up for the morning shift in the coal mines. The workers are demanding Rs.23,500/- per worker as bonus, instead of Rs.17,000/- that the management has offered. If the strike continues for the whole day, it can cause a loss of Rs.500 crore to Coal India as mining works of more than 5 lakh tones of coals would be affected. The effect of strike makes it important for the management of Coal India to find out an early breakthrough.
