CIC stresses on analysing experiences of RTI Act to make it more citizens friendly

The Central Chief Information Commissioner Vijai Sharma has stressed on analysing the experiences of RTI Act of last 10 years to make it more citizens friendly. Attending a regional workshop on RTI in Guwahati today, Mr. Sharma categorically said that private organizations should also disclose information for public utility. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the workshop, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that Assam has been a pioneer in disseminating information to public. Gogoi said that RTI act has made people more aware about their rights. He also stressed that, for the progress of the country, good government officials should be protected. Mr. Gogoi appealed to civil society and NGOs to help in proper implementation of the act. <br/><br/>Assam Chief Secretary V K Peepersenia emphasized that government departments should make voluntary disclosures of information through their websites. Several Chief Information Commissioners of North Eastern states have participated in the workshop. Several key components of the act are being discussed in the workshop.
