CIC slaps 45,000 rupees fine on Indian Olympic Association

The Central Information Commission on Thursday slapped a fine of 45,000 rupees on the Indian Olympics Association in two cases for delay in furnishing replies to queries related to Commonwealth Games. The queries pertained to expenses incurred on the domestic and foreign travels of Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi among other things. Information Commissioner M L Sharma found a delay of 100 days in furnishing replies to an RTI application dated July 12, 2010 as a fit case for imposing maximum penalty of 25,000 rupees under the transparency law. In another case, Sharma imposed a penalty of 20,000 rupees on the IOA for delay of 80 days in providing reply to the applicant.
