The Central Information Commission, CIC has launched a special drive to clear cases pending before it. The drive was launched on 2nd of last month. The Commission has also introduced hearing of cases through tele conferencing and video conferencing by the Constitution of benches to ensure speedier disposal. The Minister of State for Personnel Public Grievances and Pension Narayansami informed Lok Sabha in a written reply that nearly 14 thousand appeals or complaints were pending before CIC as on 31st of October this year. He said that the average pendency is approximately six months and 54 percent of the pending cases are less than three months old. In reply to another question Mr. Narayansami denied that there was any laxity in supplying information under the RTI Act. He said information was supplied with regard to 93 percent of the RTI applications and complaints or appeals were received for just about four percent of the total of over 14 lakhs seventy two thousand applications between 2005-06 to 2009-10. Mr. Narayansami said that the Centre has also been providing training to Public Information Officers and other related officials to improve their competence in dealing with RTI matters.
