The Central Information Commission (CIC) has directed Defence Ministry to disclose records related to Agusta Westland helicopters deal. <br/><br/>These include opinion of the Attorney General on returning procured choppers and records related to court proceedings in Italy. The Commission has also sought records related to the termination of the deal to be presented before it in camera proceedings for its perusal before deciding whether they can be disclosed under the RTI Act.<br/><br/>Information Commissioner Divya Prakash Sinha said, the Commission will examine application claiming exemption from disclosure of files and documents after getting the details. Hearing the plea of a RTI activist, Mr. Sinha ordered the Ministry to provide details of Bank guarantee amount received back by India. He also ordered the Ministry to provide names of Italian Advocates and law firms hired to represent India in Italian courts.<br/><br/>The CIC was responding to an RTI application which had sought information on various points of the controversial deal for 12 VVIP helicopters from Agusta Westland in which allegations of corruption surfaced. The Defence Ministry had cited ongoing CBI investigation to deny the information.
