CIA informer in Afghanistan not properly vetted

The CIA has admitted that one of its informers who killed seven CIA employees in eastern Afghanistan last year had not been properly vetted by the organistion. An internal investigation lists a series of break downs which led up to the attack in which the informer detonated a suicide vest as he stood among CIA officers at the agency's base in Khost last December. The most disturbing finding of two internal reviews is that the CIA was warned by Jordanian intelligence that its pride informant may in fact be a double agent working for Al Qaeda. That was almost a month before the suicide bombing but the CIA officer in Jordan failed to pass the warning on. The classified report also pin points security failings and a lack of leadership at the Afghan base.
