Christmas being celebrated across Mizoram with religious fervour

In Mizoram, Christmas is being celebrated across the state with religious fervour. Most of the churches in Aizawl had a morning mass while maintaining a physical distance, Bible reading and prayers. This year, Christmas is being celebrated amid restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
''
'' The Christmas celebrations at Churches had a restricted number of attendance of devotees. Wearing face masks, church members participated in singing Christmas songs. Unlike traditional practices, when tea and cake celebrations usually take place on church courtyards, this year, most churches in Aizawl distributed cakes and cookies to all church members to take away home. In other parts of the state, Christmas is being celebrated with pomp and gaiety.
''
'' Though the pandemic has caused several restrictions on the celebrations of Christmas within Aizawl, people are shopping and hanging out in the main markets. All markets are filled with buyers who are used to buying Christmas gifts, new clothes and decorative motifs. The streets and city points are adorned with illumination and decoration with Christmas cribs, figurines, Christmas trees and stars.
''
'' On the other, due to the pandemic, the Government has banned bursting of firecrackers on Christmas and New Year celebrations. Church leaders have also asked the followers to refrain from festive gatherings.
''
'' Also, presenting Christmas gifts of winter clothes and winter materials to the older people are organized by most churches. Also, several organisations have started organizing online Charity programs to help the needy people.
