Christian party quits Lebanon govt after third day of protests

<span style="color: #222222;">In Lebanon, the Christian party quit the coalition government yesterday, after the third day of protests across the country against tax increases and alleged official corruption.<br />''  <br />'' After tens of thousands took to the streets in Beirut, Tripoli and other cities yesterday, four ministers from the Lebanese Forces Party, a traditional ally of Prime Minister Saad Hariri, resigned from his cabinet.  Samir Geagea, head of the Lebanese forces party, said they were convinced that the government was unable to take the necessary steps to save the situation.<br />'' <br />'' The demonstrators are demanding a sweeping overhaul of Lebanon's political system, citing grievances ranging from austerity measures to poor infrastructure.<br />'' <br />'' Hariri has asked his deeply divided coalition to commit by tomorrow evening a reform package aimed at shoring up the government's finances.</span><br />''
