Choice Based Credit System for Skills to be introduced in Central universities

Choice Based Credit System and Credit Framework for Skills will be introduced in central universities and institutions from the next academic session. This was announced by Minister of Human Resource Development Smriti Irani at a conference of State Education Ministers and Secretaries in New Delhi today. The Minister urged the states to introduce similar systems in their universities and colleges so that students can benefit from it. Under the Choice Based Credit System, students have the choice to select from the prescribed courses.

Ms Irani also announced to hold meetings at village, block, district and state levels for a thorough discussion on new education policy. She said Centre and the states should discuss the future requirements of the education system. The Minister said the government is trying to give a new direction to education system in the country. She said government will soon launch online education which will be free of cost.

Efforts are also on to make it available through a mobile app and books available in central government libraries are also being digitised. The day long conference organised by the Universities Grants Commission is being attended by representatives of AICTE, State Education Ministers and Secretaries of States and Union Territories.
