Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping today stressed on the need for political stability in Bangladesh for development of the country. <br/><br/>Addressing a meeting of the Bangladesh -China Friendship Society in Dhaka today he hoped that the present political stability would help achieve the goal of turning Bangladesh into a middle-income country very soon. <br/><br/>Terming the relations between Bangladesh and China as historic, Mr. Jinping emphasised the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in<br/>different fields by utilizing the experience of 35 years of diplomatic ties. <br/><br/>Later in the evening the Chinese Vice President held talks with the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Briefing reporters about the meeting Foreign Minister Dr. Dipumoni said the two leaders held fruitful discussions about strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, commerce, investment, education, culture and defence sectors.<br/><br/>Bangladesh and China also signed an agreement on economic cooperation, under which Beijing will provide 5.7 Million US Dollars (40 Million Renminbi-RMB) as grant. <br/><br/>The Chinese Vice President is on a two day visit to Dhaka beginning from today and will hold discussions with the Bangladesh President Zillur Rehman and Speaker Abdul Hamid<br/>tomorrow.
