Mainland Chinese shares continued to slide today, falling more than 8 per cent on opening. The slump came despite more moves by China's regulators to try and stabilise the recently volatile market. The main Shanghai Composite index was down around 5 per cent in early trading and more than 1,000 companies have now suspended trading on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges.
