Government today said that cheap Chinese products can be a source of environment pollution in the country. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said these inferior quality products can be a source of pollution due to short shelf life which leads to increasing waste management problems.

He, however, said that the exact quantity of waste generated due to such products has not been assessed particularly in the context of Chinese goods. On putting stop to such products, Mr. Javadekar said import and export of goods from other countries are regulated through international agreement and there is no country specific norms to prevent cheap goods.
