Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged US President Donald Trump to peacefully resolve surging tensions over North Korea's nuclear programme. In a telephone conversation with Mr. Trump, Chinese premier today said his country advocates resolving the issue through peaceful means. <br/><br/>Today's call between the two leaders came hard on the heels of their first face-to-face meeting in Florida last week. Trump yesterday said that the US is ready to solve the North Korean problem without China if necessary. Tension has escalated on the Korean peninsula amid concerns that North Korea could soon conduct a sixth nuclear test and Trump's threat of unilateral action to solve the problem. <br/><br/>Trump had already ordered the US Vinson aircraft carrier group to head for the Korean peninsula in an attempt to deter North Korea's nuclear and long-range missile ambitions, which it is developing in defiance of United Nations resolutions and sanctions.
