Chinese President arrives in Ahmedabad; Economic cooperation high on agenda

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Ahmedabad on a three-day visit to India a short while ago.

Mr. Xi Jinping was received at the airport by Gujarat Governor O P Kohli, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and her senior cabinet colleagues. Our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that traditional welcome and guard of honor has been given to Chinese President at the Airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will welcome him at the Hotel in Vastrapur, after which the two-leaders will hold one to one and delegation level talks. Economic cooperation is high on agenda in the talks.

Three MoUs are likely to be signed during the Chinese President's Ahmedabad visit. Of those agreements, two are for relations between Guangdong and Gujarat, and Guangzhou and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. One MoU will be signed in industrial sector. The focus of talks will also be on cooperation in civil nuclear energy and simplifying visa regime.

Later this evening, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram. He will also walk along the Sabarmati river front witnessing folk art forms and dances. Prime Minister Mr. Modi will host a private dinner for the Chinese President, after which Mr Xi will leave for New Delhi.
