Chinese officials urge govt. to ease pressure caused by internal migrant workers

Officials in China have urged the government to help ease pressure caused by a record number of internal migrant workers. Officials say the latest figures are causing great concern. The figures collated by Chinese Population and Family Planning Commission say that the number of workers who moved from Chinese countryside to the cities stood at 211 million last year. Such internal migrants have no urban residents permits and they often endure tough working conditions and low pay. Media reports of the Commission's findings make no mention of the recent industrrial unrest in China but they quote reporters saying migrant workers need health care, housing and education for their children. <br/>
