Chinese Nobel peace prize winner’s wife under house arrest

Lawyers acting for the jailed Chinese dissident and Nobel peace prize winner, Liu Xiaobo say, his wife has been placed under house arrest. Her mobile phone has been taken away and media has been stopped from meeting her. Ms Lia Xia was able to speak to her husband in prison before being detained at her home. She has posted a message on the Internet confirming she has been placed under house arrest. Meanwhile, the wife of the Chinese dissident, Liu Xiaobo, has met her jailed husband for the first time since he was awarded the Nobel peace prize last week. They met yesterday in north-eastern China. He is reported to have dedicated the award to those, he said, were martyred during the Tianenmein protests of 1989.
