Chinese mine toll mounts to 104, authorities blame inadequate safety

Chinese authorities today blamed inadequate safety precautions for the country's worst mine disaster in the last two years, as the toll from the gas explosion at Xinxing colliery mounted to 104. Safety officials and investigators have blamed poor management and inadequate safety precautions for the coal mine blast. The official agency said till early this morning, four miners remained trapped in the Xinxing Coal Mine in China's north-west. The massive gas explosion in the mine came as 528 miners were working underground. While most escaped, 108 were trapped as the mine caved-in. Investigators are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident. A thorough probe is on at the site.<br/>
