Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi today on a two-day visit to India. This is the first high level visit from China after the NDA government came to power at the Centre. During his stay, the Chinese Foreign Minister will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and is likely discuss issues of mutual interest.
Mr Wang who is coming as Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj today. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said, the visit is an important element of the Year of India-China Friendly Exchanges and will provide further momentum to the India-China Strategic and Cooperative Partnership.
China has expressed keen interest in establishing high-level contacts with India's new leadership to step up engagement in political, trade and economic areas. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during his telephonic call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conveyed his government's desire to establish robust partnership with the new government in India for further development of relations between the two nations.
