Chinese dissident and Human Rights activist Liu Xiaobo has won the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China. The Norwegian Nobel Committee says, it has long believed that there is a close connection between human rights and peace. Currently serving a jail term of 11 years on charges of subversion, Liu, an author was charged with writing pro-free speech manifesto. He also participated in 1989 Tiananmen Square protests at Beijing.Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Liu despite a warning from Beijing that the award would be seen as an unfriendly gesture. Reacting to Liu's Nobel win, China said the Norwegian Nobel committee has violated the integrity of the Peace Prize by awarding it to jailed dissident Liu Xiaobo. It also warned that ties with Oslo would suffer.
