Chinese delegation calls on Thomas

A six member Chinese delegation led by Nie Zhenbang, Administrator, SAG, peoples’ Republic called on the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Prof. K.V. Thomas, in New Delhi today. The delegation discussed among other things the exchange and cooperation programs and modes in the grain distribution area between the two countries. Discussions were also held on the latest situation and development of grain production, consumption, storage, quality inspection, processing and trade. Prof. Thomas said the India is working on various schemes to modernize food grain storage and would like to take advantage of Chinese expertise and experience of managing huge food grain management, especially temperature control of food godowns and quality handling of food stocks.

The visiting Chinese delegation said that because of similarity in food grain distribution system of both the countries, cooperation can be strengthened in related areas. The Chineese side said that they would like to study storage facilities, proposed food security scheme and agriculture production pattern in India. Delegation level talks were also held to discuss bilateral cooperation in various field related food grain management and distribution. The Indian side was led by Secretary Food B. C. Gupta.
