China's most wanted fugitive arrived in Beijing on Saturday after being deported from Canada following a 12-year extradition battle. Lai Changxing, who fled to Canada in 1999 with his wife and children, is facing charges for allegedly orchestrating a multi-billion-dollar smuggling operation. A Canadian court cleared the way late Thursday to extradite Lai and Chinese Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision. Lai Changxing says the charges against him are politically motivated, and he faces the death penalty in China.
