China's efforts on energy supplies take a step forward

China's attempts to secure energy supplies take a significant step forward on Monday with the inauguration of a new pipeline delivering gas from Turkemenistan. Analysts say the new connection marks the beginning of a major diversification of Central Asia's huge energy reserves towards the east, breaking Russia's long standing stronghold. The leaders of Turkmenistan and China will attend the commissioning ceremony. Leaders from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will also be present as the pipeline crosses their countries.
