China yet again gives no timeline for return of International Students, pushes for International COVID-19 Vaccine Recognition System

China has yet again not given any timeline for the return of international students who have been waiting for more than a year now, instead it pushed for an international COVID-19 vaccine recognition system. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson told reporters in Beijing on Tuesday that based on mutual recognition of the efficacy of the tests and inoculation, relevant sides can provide facilitation. He repeated China's stand that the country was studying about the return on international students and was in close communication with all sides on this.
''
''Even though the ministry spokesperson again urged relevant universities for keeping close contact with students overseas, make good arrangements for online teaching and properly handle their legitimate concerns and requirements, most students have previously expressed their displeasure with this exercise and have dubbed it as frustrating and mentally harassing.
''
''China has launched a digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate for its citizens planning cross-border travels, joining other countries issuing similar documents as they seek ways to reopen their economies. Chinese versions of the health certificates for international travelers are issued to those who take the nucleic acid test on the Chinese side or those who are vaccinated with Chinese vaccines. According to reports, a few countries including Bahrain have already introduced certificates identifying vaccinated people, and the European Union agreed to develop vaccine passports under pressure from tourism-dependent southern countries.
''
''The certificate issued by China will have details about the holder's COVID-19 vaccination information and coronavirus test results, the Department of Consular Affairs under China's foreign ministry said on its website. Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday the aim of the certificate is to achieve mutual verification of information such as nucleic acid testing and vaccination and contribute to safe and orderly interaction of people. It is not immediately clear with which countries China is talking to get its COVID-19 certificate recognised. China also has not yet announced any relaxation of quarantine restrictions for people arriving in China who are vaccinated against COVID-19.
