China to promote travel along Silk Road belt

China on Sunday said that it will promote travel by Chinese tourists to the countries along the Silk Road belt, which could also benefit India. China will promote travel to countries along the Silk Road in 2015.India, which gets just over a lakh Chinese visitors, is conducting campaigns to attract more Chinese visitors, as their numbers has risen sharply in Sri Lanka and Maldives. The decision was made against the backdrop of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives which were proposed by President Jinping to boost regional economic and infrastructure cooperation, as well as people-to-people exchange in Asia. China is promoting a maze of Silk Roads including the ancient Silk Road connecting China to Europe through Central Asia; the Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar, BCIM corridor; the Pakistan-China corridor through Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and the Maritime Silk Road to connect it with a host of ports in India and South Asia. The new initiative is seen as a strategic hedge against the US Pivot to Asia.
