China supports greater role for India in UN Security Council

China has expressed its support for India’s aspiration and desire to play a greater role in the United Nations especially the Security council and it has also supported India’s candidature for non permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the year 2011-12.<br/> <br/>Talking to media persons last evening at Beijing Foreign Secretary Ms. Nirupama Rao told that during summit level talks today at Beijing the Chinese leadership said that the representation of developing countries in Security Council should be increased and both India and China must strengthen cooperation on Security Council matters.<br/> <br/>Ms. Nirupama Rao said that meetings the President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil had with her Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Chairman of National Peoples Congress Wu Bangguo were very cordial and extremely positive. <br/> <br/>During the meetings it was also articulated that the consolidation of strategic partnership for peace and prosperity is necessary and this could be done through the deepening of mutual trust through high level exchanges at level of top political leadership as well as non governmental exchanges particularly between the youths of both the countries.<br/> <br/>Foreign Secretary said that both the countries reiterated the need to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas until the issue is settled. The leaders agreed with each other that the relationship between the two countries has to be consolidated to make sure that no single episode or issue could do damage to it.<br/> <br/>Referring trade and economic relationship between both the countries Ms. Rao said that both the sides have decided not only to increase the volume business but also to ensure the diversification of trade basket besides addressing the adverse trade balance that affects India. She said that China favoured to import more goods from India particularly pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, agricultural products, IT and IT enabled services.<br/> <br/>Earlier, after the delegation level talks between Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Mr. Hu Jintao, three agreements were signed. While the first one is on streamlining visa formalities of airline staff of both the countries, the other two are in the fields of civil services, personnel management & public administration and sports cooperation.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent covering President visit reports that President Pratibha Devisingh Patil was accorded a ceremonial reception by Chine President Hu Zintao at the Great Hall of People. <br/> <br/>On the third day of her 6-day State visit to China, Mrs. Patil will meet Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr. Jia Qinglin. She will also interact with members of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, in Beijing. The President will visit the historic Forbidden City which is also known as Palace Museum and Temple of Heavan. <br/><br/>
