China says, it will facilitate visa for foreigners in HK but only after inoculation with China made vaccines

China started pushing for its vaccines among foreigners as it announced on Friday, to facilitate the visa applicants who have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines produced in China. A statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry's Hong Kong office said that foreigners planning to visit the Chinese mainland from Hong Kong will need to submit less papers and documents if they're inoculated with Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines. Even though China has repeatedly said that it opposes vaccine nationalism, the announcement disregarded other COVID-19 vaccines inoculations without giving any reasons.
''
'' Hong Kong permits residents to choose between the Sinovac vaccine from mainland China and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine imported from Germany. The announcement on Saturday didn't specify what will happen to those Hong Kong residents who've already acquired the Pfizer-BioNTech shot. Experts questioned the necessity for allowing entry primarily based on which vaccine was taken by a person. It is not clear what is the difference between having an imported vaccine and one that is produced in China. China has said it rejects any vaccine divide or any attempt to politicise vaccine cooperation. Whether it is a Chinese vaccine or not, it is a good vaccine as long as it is safe and effective.
''
'' The announcement comes the day when the Quad countries India, United States, Japan and Australia announced their plan to finance the manufacturing in India of at least a billion doses of coronavirus vaccine by the end of next year. The Quad vowed to collaborate to strengthen equitable vaccine access for the Indo-Pacific, with close coordination with multilateral organizations including the World Health Organization and COVAX.
''
'' China is attempting to enhance the worldwide attraction of its vaccines, while scientists and overseas governments urge Chinese vaccine makers to be more transparent with their crucial phase 3 trial data. According to official statements made this week, China had dispatched vaccines to 69 nations so far and begun industrial exports to 43 nations. China till now has not supplied any doses to COVAX as WHO has not yet approved any Chinese vaccine for emergency use and has approved vaccines by Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Janssen till now.
''
'' Chinese-made vaccines haven't been permitted by most regulators within the West. China has not permitted the manufacture or distribution of overseas vaccines inside its borders. This week, China launched e-health certificates for its residents that records COVID-19 vaccination status.
''
'' It was not instantly clear how much a difference this announcement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry would make for foreigners residing in Hong Kong. Also, it does not mention anything about foreigners in other countries waiting to return to China for work or family reasons. Lakhs of international students became the biggest casualty of visa restrictions by China as they are on the verge of breaking down after losing more than a year.
''
