China red faced as dissident gets Nobel

China has protested against the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. The Beijing Government summoned the Norwegian ambassador in protest and said the award violated Nobel principles and could damage relations with Norway. The Norwegian Nobel Committee, however, said Liu was the foremost symbol of the struggle for human rights in China.US President Barack Obama has called for Liu's immediate release. Obama is last year's Nobel Peace Prize winner. Other Western countries have also urged China to release Liu.
