China objects US, S Korea joint military drill

China has objected to the proposed joint military drill between the US and South Korea in the Yellow Sea. Giving the reason for the opposition, Deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, General Ma Xiaotian said the location of the upcoming military exercises is too close to its maritime region. Ma's comment was China's first public opposition to the drill. The combined military drill was announced last month to counter North Korea's alleged sinking of a South Korean warship in March that killed 46. China is currently conducting military exercises in the East China Sea off Shanghai's coast facing Japan and the Korean peninsula.
