In China Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament, a strong Indian contingent advanced today to the pre-quarterfinal stages of Men and Women's Singles event and also in the Double's section. In the Women's Singles, rising shuttler PV Sindhu, paved her way into last 16 after she defeated Japanese Natsuki Nidaira in straight sets 21-16, 21-12. In the Men's Singles event, 7th seeded HS Prannoy advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after beating Chinese Yuxiang Huang 21-13, 21-11. Earlier, K Srikanth made a shock exit in the first round while Sameer Verma and P Kashyap withdrew in first round.In the doubles segment, Men's pair of Pranaav Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar beat duo of Yong Kai Terry Hee and Kean Hean Loh from Singapore 21-18, 21-13 to be up against 7th seeded Chinese pair of Wang Yilyu and Zhang Wen in pre-quarterfinals. Indian women's pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa also made it to the pre-quarterfinals after they defeated Malaysian pair of Mei Kuan Chow and Meng Yean Lee 21-16, 21-18.
