China Masters: P.V. Sindhu enters semi-finals

Rising Indian shuttler P V Sindhu and Ajay Jayaram have entered the semi-finals of the Li Ning China Masters Super Series badminton tournament. At Changzhou today, 17-year-old Sindhu pulled off the biggest upset of her career when she stunned London Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui of China to storm into the women's singles last four stage. World number 24 Sindhu won 21-19 9-21 21-16 in a tense 45-minute contest against the second seeded and world number three Chinese. Sindhu will now take on the fourth seeded Yanjiao Jiang of China in the semi-finals. In the Men's Singles quarter-final, Ajay Jayaram beat his Indian compatriot Sourabh Verma in three games to advance to the semi-finals. Another Indian, RMV Gurusaidutt, crashed out of the tournament after going down to the top seed Long Chen of China 8-21, 12-21 at the last eight stage.
